As parents of children with Dyslexia know, it is a real struggle to find suitable reading material that is both fun, and educational. This range of attractive, informative books are a brilliant idea, beautifully executed. Ideal for any kid interested in nature, and especially important because they introduce them to native Irish and local wildlife, they are fabulous gifts for dyslexic readers.

On the website above you can buy the 4 great titles in this range, and there is a FREE teacher’s aid download making these a great choice for any classroom (parents working on reading at home will also find this download excellent.)

Making it Dyslexia Friendly

We use five simple techniques in our books to make them more accessible for dyslexic readers. While they may not work in every case, we have received a very positive response from parents, teachers, and children with dyslexia.

  1. We use a special font called OpenDyslexic font. This is currently free to download at http://dyslexicfonts.com
  2. We avoid black text on a white background. Instead we use dark blue text on a cream background.
  3. We use only single spacing after all punctuation marks.
  4. We avoid beginning the first word of a new sentence on the previous line.
  5. We align the text to the left of the page and avoid justifying it.

About

Located in the heart of Galway city, Charlie Byrne’s flagship shop on Middle Street (beside Milano Restaurant) is just around the corner from Shop Street, the city’s main pedestrian thoroughfare. Middle Street runs parallel to Shop Street, so our location couldn’t be more central: we’re easy to find, and our shop is a stone’s throw away from Galway’s Latin Quarter, as well as lots of the city’s great pubs, hotels, and other attractions.
Charlie Byrne’s Middle Street shop is packed with over 100,000 new, bargain and secondhand books. We’ve got titles on just about any subject you can imagine: from unusual literary fiction to cars and motoring, and from craft, art technique and DIY to history, politics and philosophy.
Deliveries of secondhand and remaindered books arrive from our warehouse nearly every day, so there’s always something new to be found on our shelves. Plus, our Middle Street shop stocks new books – including new but hard-to-get titles on topics of Irish interest – and we always do our best to have a selection of the latest bestsellers on hand.
